This season Moose Lake and Willow River celebrate 40 years of the sports cooperative. 20 years ago, the coaching staff, led by 2nd year coach Scott Hendricks, pushed this team day in and day out with hopes and plans of earning something special. The 2004-2005 Rebel team at that time played its home games in the old Moose Lake School gym, where these guys would, as coach Hendricks would say, “Play wall to wall for all 4 quarters, all 32 minutes”. This team compiled a 24-6 record, ranking as high at 6th in the state Class 2A. They finished the season winning 15 of their last 16 games, and the largest loss all season was by 13 points. In the playoffs, they battled to the section 7AA championship game, and earned the Moose Lake Willow River Rebels Boys Basketball its first state tournament berth in school history. The team had many offensive scoring threats and defensive weapons, led by senior Geoff Probst, who still to this day holds the boys record for points scored with 1,848 in his varsity career. Thank you to all the Rebel teams, coaches and players of the past; the memories do in fact last a lifetime. With your influence, many of this former team are carrying on the great basketball tradition and teaching, reffing, and coaching the next generation of players. Thank you players and staff for attending the Rebels game last Friday. It was wonderful to see you all. #rebels #mlwrrebels #basketball #memories #WeRWillow
