My home away from school is a small, family farm in Barnum. I raise meat goats and many of my students love meeting them at the Carlton County Fair just before school starts. We also count a horse, a donkey, some chickens, three cats, and a chocolate Labrador named Lincoln as part of our farm family. My husband and I have two boys who are both at the University of Minnesota/Twin Cities. We enjoy taking trips to the Cities to catch a play or concert and stock up their refrigerators!
One of my favorite things is sharing my home stories with my students and then listening to their stories about their experiences. It helps our class feel connected and ready to learn!
I grew up in a very small town in North Dakota. I know the beauty, influence, support that small communities bring to a school and I feel so fortunate to be a part of one, again. Now, My husband, Mike, and I live in Barnum with our two sons. We absolutely LOVE living in northern Minnesota and being outdoors, especially fishing!
I am a graduate of the University of Minnesota - Duluth (Elementary Education & Mathematics) This year will be my 8th year teaching! My teaching experience includes Level IV EBD, kindergarten, 4th grade, and K-12 Math intervention - both in rural and urban settings. I am so excited to be at Willow River teaching 5th and 6th grade Math this year!
I am passionate about the power of a growth mindset and love that this reflects in my classroom and work I do with students. I truly believe that everyone can learn Math to high levels. Did you know research shows that there is actually no such thing as a "math" brain?!
It's going to be such a great year!
